On Thursday, four Warwick School RAF cadets visited RAF Benson for an Air Flying Experience. For most, this was the first time they had been in a light aircraft and a briefing on how to exit the plane at altitude and deploy the parachute did nothing to settle the nerves!
In perfect conditions for flying, they accompanied an RAF pilot into the skies, at which point they were given control and got to put into practice what they had learnt in the classroom. Afterwards, the pilot asked if they wanted to do some aerobatics, and they all got to experience loop-the-loops, barrel rolls, and stall turns. It is amazing to note that they have started to learn to fly a plane before learning to drive a car!
On Thursday, 20 March, eleven of our pupils performed alongside peers from The Kingsley School and King's High School and professional musicians during 'Elements' at Warwick Hall. This truly unique opportunity was afforded as part of Warwick Schools Foundation's ongoing partnership with Orchestra of the Swan.
The U14 rugby side managed to beat Bromsgrove 26 - 19 in a thrilling final at Solihull Sevens.
The boys showed great perseverance to improve significantly from a disappointing loss to Sedbergh at Warwick Sevens.
14 players were in the squad, but we finished the final with only eight boys still standing, showing how much of a team effort they needed on the day!
Mr Willis and Mr Drew were very proud of the positive and encouraging attitude displayed by both boys and parents on what was a cold and windy day! Well done boys.
On Wednesday, 19 March, just one week out from the infamous annual Big Brass Concert, Brass Company visited the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) for a very exciting musical collaboration.
The CCF deployed to South Wales last weekend. The scenario was that the regular army had been deployed to deal with a threat, leaving the CCF responsible for home defence.
The cadets were deployed to South Wales to protect key infrastructure – gas pipelines and data cables. On arrival they soon found themselves in a firefight and were later ambushed on the patrol into their farmhouse base. Keen for revenge, the cadets carried out night recces on several enemy positions. Using intel gained from this, they ambushed the enemy as they moved down a road.
After a not very good night’s sleep-in sub-zero temperatures, the cadets woke to bright Welsh sunshine. What followed was a long patrol where they located the enemy on a nearby high point and drove them off. Having successfully taken the high ground, the cadets advanced on the enemy base, clearing it of all hostile forces. A successful operation for Warwick School CCF.
Mentions in Dispatches go to Tom and Jacob. A special thanks to Mr Sunner for the many hours of preparation he put into making this exercise happen.
