Boarding FAQs

Applying for a Boarding Place:

Those interested in applying for a boarding place at Warwick School should contact our admissions department, who can register your interest and begin the application process.

EAL / IELTS Qualifications

Specific IELTS qualifications are not required for a successful application for a boarding place at Warwick School. Each applicant will sit bespoke entrance tests, depending on the year they are applying to and the subjects they wish to study. Each applicant will also sit an interview with a senior member of school / boarding staff.

A high level of spoken and written English is necessary for ALL boarding applicants.

Those looking to move onto Universities in the UK and elsewhere, may be required to show that they have achieved a certain level of English. The school’s EAL department will work with pupils, in groups, and one on one, to ensure that they reach the required level.

Applying for a Visa

All students who are not British Citizens will need a visa to live and study in the UK. The school will issue a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) letter which will be needed when making the application for the necessary visa.

{When making the visa application please ensure that you use the ACL (Alternative Collection Location) reference supplied in the CAS letter, to ensure that your BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) is delivered to school.

(Each family is responsible for ensuring that they have checked the Visa requirements applicable to their child)

Guardians

All pupils (including those aged 18 and over) whose parents live outside the UK are required to have a guardian living in the UK. The guardian must be over 25 years of age and not resident at university. They should live close enough to the school to be able to undertake their duties without undue delay.

Holidays

The boarding house closes for all holidays. All boarders should either return home or stay with their guardian for the duration of the holiday. Boarders must leave on the last day of each term and return on the dates specified in the published term dates information sent out to boarding families.

Exeat Weekends

There are six exeat weekends each year, two in each of the three terms. The boarding house closes at 5pm on the Friday and reopens at 6:30pm on the Sunday of each Exeat weekend.

Transport to and from School

Warwick School is situated approximately 1.5 hours (by coach) from Heathrow. At the start and end of every term a school coach is arranged to take and collect boys from the airport. The cost of this is dependent on the number of boys using the service and is added to the school bill. Outside of these times House staff can help arrange transport to and from the airport and guardians.

Weekend Activities

Unlike many boarding schools, there are no lessons at the weekend. On Saturdays, many boarders will be playing sports for one of the many school teams. Boarders are able to make use of the school’s facilities, at the weekends and in the evenings, and these include the sports centre, swimming pool, indoor climbing wall as well as the many outdoor facilities. Access to other parts of the school, including music rooms etc, can be arranged as required. House staff will organise a full and varied program of activities and many of these take place at the weekends. There is also the opportunity for boarders to enjoy some downtime away from the busy school schedules to relax and socialise.

Prep (Homework)

Each boarder does 2 hours of perp per night Monday – Thursday and 1 hour on a Friday.

Boys in Year 9 & 10 will do this in a specified study room under the supervision of a member of the boarding staff.

Boys in Years 11, 12 & 13 will do prep in their rooms under the supervision of boarding staff.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is at the very forefront of all that we do here at Warwick School. This is especially the case with our boarders. The Boarding staff are all highly experienced and are all aware of the issues that boarders face, not only when they join the school but throughout their time at the school. Each boarder has many people, in the school and in the boarding house, to whom they can turn for help and advice
