The Big Brass Concert 2024
Wow, last night, The Big Brass Concert 2024 showcased the sheer talent of Warwick School’s Brass Department with a truly breath-taking, expertly masterminded, and spectacular show to a fully packed energetic Warwick Hall.
An appreciative audience were treated to an absolute joyous evening of music whereby all the Brass ensembles performed outstandingly, demonstrating that Brass playing is clearly thriving at Warwick School.
The mighty sight and sound of 109 musicians commenced the evening with a bang performing Friend Like Me from Aladdin. Brass Monkeys followed with a well-known Katy Perry song Firework, whilst The Bandsmen demonstrated that the unique Year 7 Music Scheme is an exciting and successful curriculum that enables our younger pupils to thrive. Brass Ltd is expanding in size with some rather exciting prospects coming through the ranks. The advanced chamber groups boasted a high level of musicianship across the department in the form of The French Horn Ensemble, Fanfare Team and The Undertones. Funk After 8 has rapidly become one of the music departments most sought after groups with its lively energy and top-notch standard of playing, delivering a showstopper rendition of DANZA. Finally, Brass Company, the flagship ensemble for any aspiring Brass player performed a flawless and professional contrasting programme. Patronage and Dark Side of the Moon demonstrated real pizzazz, whilst the beautiful ballad Yesterday, showcased the emotional side that Brass instrument can evoke to its listeners. The quality of the playing and presentation was simply magnificent. Following a rapturous applause from a very appreciative audience, the concert ended with all the musicians sounding the iconic classic hit – You Can’t Stop The Beat from Hairspray.
A huge congratulations to all pupils that performed and to Warwick’s esteemed Head of Brass, Mr Tibbitts and all the Brass team for making this a night to remember for a long, long time!
