Mother Language Poetry Competition

We are so pleased to share the two winning entries for the 'Mother Language Poetry Competition', run by the Modern Languages department, which was centred around the theme of 'peace.'

Congratulations to Adchayon in Year 11 (written in Tamil) and Frederick in Lower Sixth.

The competition was all about young people expressing themselves in their native language on this theme and we thoroughly enjoyed reading all the entries, which were written in a variety of different styles and voices.

Frederick's poem:

On an Undisturbed Environment

That ripping paranoia of the blank

and lonely minutes (five or six) gone by!

No contact from the outside world: alone

to think, to talk, and not hear brutal tales.

Instead, without the grating ping that comes

to snatch away that beautiful ennui,

superfluous and noble in its cause.

Without the restless chorus of our day;

the back-to-basic failures of our time

which, pitied, fell with any dreams of peace.

Adchayon's poem:
