Barber Fine Arts Online
As part of the development of the Barber Art galleries outreach to schools programme, our Year 12 art students were lucky enough to access a live online session with the Barber’s specialist education department of The Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
In this one-off session students were introduced to the artwork of artist Frank Auerbach and one of his paintings that forms part of the permanent collection at the gallery. We were taken through the process of how to analyse the painting and understanding the connection between the artists life and how we understand the artwork itself. The artwork in question was a visceral and dramatic landscape painting based around the Primrose Hill area of London where Auerbach lives. This led to us experimenting and learning about ways that we can take inspiration from this and develop our own work outside the gallery.
A very insightful and interesting session that I am sure will prove valuable to students in the future and continue remind us why we love are and look forward to when we can see these artworks in person again.
