Second annual Future Fwd conference at Warwick Schools Foundation | 3 & 4 July 2023
Congratulations to the following boys: Jeffrey, Daniel, Tom, Rory, Ned, Harry, Tony, George, Euan, Ryan, Alex, Ollie and Alex who competed in the Intermediate Physics Olympiad on Friday, 3 February.
It has been a busy Lent term for the Senior Debaters. Our Year 11 speakers Pranav, Frederic and Ryan were Runners Up in the Warwick District Rotary Youth Speaks Competition as well as qualifying for the second round of the ESU Churchill Public Speaking Competition. Their topic for both was whether prisoners should have the freedom to vote, and their research and knowledge of the subject was evident in their thought-provoking presentations.
On Saturday, 11 March, Arjan and Will participated in the Oxford Schools’ Debating Competition Finals Day at the Oxford Union. Their success in the regional round of the competition earned them their place at Finals Day where they competed against the other highest scoring teams from the UK and around the world.
We are so pleased to share that Tom (Year 12) has won the final of the Foxcroft Essay competition. This prestigious competition is open to Year 12 science students from Warwickshire, Rugby, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, and so Tom's win is a huge achievement and a clear indication of his skill and hard work.
Tom's presentation was on using big data and machine learning to further pharmaceutical development, covering and commenting on key issues in science, technology, and AI in society today.
The competition was incredibly strong and Tom did a tremendous job both with his presentation delivery and fielding of questions.
We are pleased to announce more diverse, exciting, and thought-provoking talks from a range of inspiring speakers. Pupils from all year groups are welcome to attend what is sure to be another fantastic (if not slightly shorter than usual, given exam timetables!) term of events.
All from 4.15pm - 5.30pm. Unless otherwise stated, events are unticketed and open to all of our Foundation community.
This week saw the return of British Science Week at Warwick. Monday began with a paper aeroplane competition. Pupils were given a single sheet and had to throw as far as possible. There were some innovative designs, with some interesting flying styles. It was a good turnout and the furthest travelled 19.3 metres!
On Saturday, 4 March, I took part in an event called Endurance 60, which was a 60km hike around Buckinghamshire. I set off at 8.00am, hoping to be done at 11.00pm. However, we finished at 2.30am after walking for 18 hours and 7 extra kilometres (we prefer to say we took the scenic route).
Last week was a busy week for the Warwick School senior debaters with live competitions at Stratford Girls’ Grammar School and St Edward’s School in Oxford.
On Tuesday, 7 February, over 130 string players from the Junior and Senior Schools came together on stage in Warwick Hall for STRINGFEST 2023. The programme promised an eclectic mix of musical genres, from classical to pop, to film music and folk music, and all were delivered with great conviction and style.
