U13A County Champions
The U13A cricket season finished in style this week with a 5 wicket win against KES Birmingham in the county cup final.
The triumph was made more remarkable for the team having to overcome considerable adversity this season. The loss of Dom to a broken leg and Joel, our best bowler, to a broken wrist in previous weeks were both very worrying moments. We were challenged again in the semi-final as we came up against a gun player who hit a hundred against us in the T20, luckily though we were chasing a gettable 132 to win. After a slow start, having hit almost no boundaries in the first 10 overs, it seemed that we would be going home at lunchtime. The prospect of returning to afternoon lessons seemed to galvanise the remaining batters though, and we managed to accelerate. Henry T and Henry D retrieved the situation with a fantastic partnership, as we chased down the total with an over to spare. On to the final against KES Birmingham!
In the second match the team lost the toss and bowled first (which we would have chosen to do anyway). We were absolutely electric in the field, in what was easily our most impressive performance of the season. Freddie got two early wickets, the fielding was energetic, with me losing count of the number of times we hit the stumps with direct hits. Continued good bowling by the seamers, and a wicket for Dan's leg spin saw us restrict the opposition to 111-6. After managing to play out their quick bowler at the start of the innings we ticked along nicely in the chase, led by our captain Sam who hit a 50. On a slow pitch, the game was drawn out, and we did suffer a mini collapse at the end but squeezed home with a ball to spare.
A huge well done and what a way to end the academic year!
