Super 7s
Saturday, 2 March saw the return of the Annual Warwick 7s rugby tournament.
This was the 55th year since the inaugural competition took place in 1969, and despite the poor weather in the lead up to the event we were able to host 44 teams and approximately 600 players, who took part in 104 matches across the day. It was an outstanding advert for the school despite the U15s tournament having to be cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.
The U16Bs fought valiantly throughout the day, playing some inspired rugby at times to score some great tries against Millfield and Hampton. The U16As had a fantastic day and reached the final of the Cup competition, losing out to an exceptionally strong Sedbergh team. The U14s were knocked out in the quarter finals of the Cup, losing 15-12 to the eventual winners - Ysgol Dyffryn Aman. The U13s managed to survive a tough encounter with Solihull to finish as overall winners in their age group.
Across the board there were some outstanding performances from all those involved – in particular Tom Mc and Harry H in the U13s, Todd T and Theo R in the U14s and Fin G in the U16s.
A significant number of pupils were involved in the organisation of the day - a massive thank you to all those who helped out as pitch runners, ball boys, with the catering and especially the referees in the U13 competition.
This week has also seen the U18s reach the semi-finals of the Solihull 7s, after winning the Shield in the KES Stratford 7s last week. But it was the junior boys who really brought home the silverware this week. At the Caldicott 7s, the U13s won the Plate and the U12s were crowned overall winners by a single point. There were some really gutsy performances from the boys throughout the day in numerous highly competitive games which tested both their skills and resilience. Congratulations to all those who were involved in all the 7s tournaments this week.
