Ryan Wong OW
What is your current role?
I am currently a software engineer in the financial industry.
Has your career had any unexpected or unusual twists?
Fortunately, I have been loving what I do as a software engineer from the start of my career.
Have you been involved in any other interesting activities/occupations since leaving school?
I am still playing football and tennis, especially with fond memories from the Boarders vs Staff football matches and playing for the tennis first team during my time at Warwick. But otherwise, I haven't found any other interesting activities yet.
How has your time at Warwick helped you in your career?
The selection of subjects that we got to choose (in which I chose Maths, Further Maths, Additional Further Maths and Computing) definitely helped me to decide what I wanted to study at university, and eventually what I wanted to do for my career.
Did any one person at Warwick have a positive influence on you and/or your career aspirations?
I would say Mr O'Grady and Mr Clift! It was always a pleasure to be in their lessons!
Are there any other defining points in your career/life post Warwick that you could share?
Getting married to my wife in a micro-wedding during the pandemic in 2020 is definitely one of the defining points in my life!
Are you still in touch with other OWs and if so, do you get together?
Yeah! I am still very close to some of the OWs. We regularly meet up in London for those who stayed in the UK. And we kept in touch with those who went back to Hong Kong after further education.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
I would say follow your heart on what you want to do and do not regret the decision that you made.
