In this greatly adapted new school year Pupil Voice has continued to drive forward the ideas and views of students throughout the school. As a result, I have a number of exciting updates to share with you all.  

The racism survey completed last year was of great value to Pupil Voice and we thank you all for completing it. As a result, Akash Bening, leader of the teaching and learning subcommittee has contacted all heads of department and is discussing how racial knowledge and integration can be incorporated into the subject syllabuses. Moreover, Charities subcommittee leader Alec Chamberlain and Head Boy Josh Simango, are spearheading a cross foundation initiative with ‘Show racism the red card’ to increase knowledge about racism within and outside school. You will hear more about this in the coming days.  

With Covid-19 measures in place there has been great change to the catering provision. After discussing catering issues with students, Ankit Sreevathsa, chairman of the Catering subcommittee, invited our Head Chef to come to a Pupil Voice meeting last week where we put your questions to him. The main outcomes of the meeting were that for 'Grab and Go' the catering department will try and provide a greater variety of sandwiches and that sandwiches will be divided equally between year groups. Unfortunately, despite the referendum victory last year, a Meat Free Monday once every three weeks will not be implemented just yet since there are not enough staff to do the preparation. Lastly, although not confirmed, there is a possibility that there may be pasta and jacket potato on alternate days for the hot meal option at 'Grab and Go'. Freddie Keays, Chairman of the Green Team, has been lobbying for a reduction in the single use plastic usage during lunches. Although, to adhere to Covid-19 measures a reduction in plastic is not currently possible, he encourages you all to wear reusable masks and bring in your own reusable water bottles.
