This week the Junior School celebrated World Book Day and it was wonderful to see the boys sharing their love of books. One of the many strengths of the Junior School is the way the library - which is led so superbly by Mrs Stevns - is used throughout the day. Whether it is during lessons, group reading sessions or just being a place to sit back and read at breaktime with their friends, it is wonderful to see the boys enjoying and talking about what they are reading.
When parents ask what they can do at home to help their child, one of the answers is always reading. Reading is enjoyable in itself, and needs no further justification, but it is also a key way for children to broaden their vocabulary, become aware of different writing styles and techniques, to develop greater knowledge whether cultural, historical or geographical, and, perhaps most importantly, it contributes to a growing understanding of themselves and others.
