Oxbridge Evening
Tuesday 22 September saw a very successful virtual version of our usual Oxbridge evening.
Eighteen old boys and old girls, currently about to enter their first, second, and third years at Oxford or Cambridge kindly gave up their time to meet up with almost fifty Lower and Upper Sixth Formers at Warwick School and King's High School. The evening started with Mr Jefferies (Warwick School) and Dr Seal (King's High School) giving up-to-date advice to the Upper Sixth on preparation for aptitude tests and potential (virtual) interviews, while Mr Cooley and Mr Bennett outlined to the Lower Sixth why they might (or not) wish to consider courses at Oxford and Cambridge and what they might start to do now, if they do so wish.
The middle session featured meetings via ‘Teams’ for a variety of subjects ranging from ASNC (Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic) to Law and from Biochemistry to Engineering. Here Oxbridge students were able to pass on the benefit of their advice and successful experiences, and answer questions about what studying a particular subject at Oxford or Cambridge is actually like, since as one of our alumni rather cruelly put it, several of our staff advisers were there decades ago. Actually, it was last century in my case! The evening then ended with a general Q & A session.
Thanks to the current Oxbridge cohort for so kindly passing on their good advice. We hope that they will be succeeded in a few years by some of those whom they advised last week.
Mr Cooley (Head of Scholars and HE adviser)
